Two vans, built by hand.
Uhuru is Swahili for freedom. We build campers in a small workshop outside Tirana and rent them to travellers who want to take the slow road through Albania and Kosovo.
We started converting vans in 2023, in a garage on the edge of Tirana, between a cherry tree and the neighbour's cats. The first camper was for us. The second was for a friend. The third — and the fourth on the way — are for you.
Each build takes about four months. We do the woodwork, the electrics, the plumbing, and most of the upholstery ourselves. Anything we can't do well, we send out to people who can. We keep the fleet small on purpose. We'd rather answer every message in a day than run twenty vans and none of them properly.
When you rent from us, you meet the person who built the van. That's important to us — it means if a hinge is loose or a drawer sticks, we fix it before you leave. It also means we know the roads. Ask us where to sleep. We'll draw on a map.
