Two vans, built by hand.
Uhuru is Swahili for freedom. We're Jeta and Ali — a couple building campers in the north of Albania and renting them to travellers who want slow travel through Albania, Kosovo, Montenegro and North Macedonia.
We started converting vans in 2023, in a small workshop in the north of Albania — mountains behind us, sea an hour west. The first camper was for us. The second was for a friend. The third — and the fourth on the way — are for you.
We learned every part of it ourselves. Woodwork, wiring, plumbing, upholstery — YouTube, mistakes, and a lot of coffee. Anything we can't do well, we send out to someone who can. Each build takes about four months. We keep the fleet small on purpose — we'd rather answer every message in a day than run twenty vans and none of them properly.
When you rent from us, you meet the people who built the van. That's important to us — it means if a hinge is loose or a drawer sticks, we fix it before you leave. We travel obsessively too — every free week we're on a road somewhere — so we know these ones. Ask us where to sleep. We'll draw on a map.
